3-4hrs, uphill hiking, not for young children

Mount Alfred 1375m heigh, is located next to Glenorchy and can be climbed on its western side, where the Dart River flows. A carpark on the right hand side of the road is the starting point. From there a zigzag track leads up the mountain all the way to the marked route which can be followed further up to the bushline.
The view of Dart River, Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps, Glenorchy and Queenstown are magnificent and well worth the effort.

Hikers interested in climbing on the exposed and steep upper track of Mount Alfred above the bushline, need permission from Earnslaw Station.
