1 hr, red beech forest walk to Lake Sylvan The Lake Sylvan Track is located in the Routeburn Valley within the Mt. Aspiring National Park. Access to the Track is given from the Lake Sylvan Car park 30 minutes from Glenorchy.
The Track starts with the swing bride crossing of the Routeburn River and then leads through stunning native red beech forest all the way up to Lake Sylvan. If you are lucky you will see brown trout and numerous small native fish in the lake. The fabulous setting and natural features of the lake are very inviting for relaxing, resting or a picnic along the shore.
On the way in the track is leading through untouched forest. The optional tramline loop track back passes through regenerating beech forest and includes crossing the river. Relics from the early logging days, the old tram line but also breathtaking views of Mount Earnslaw are points of interest on the way out. Also allow yourself some time to observe the diversity of native plants and birds which are abundant on this track. |
