The indigenous inhabitants of the Pacific Island Vanuatu, are the true inventors of the adrenaline pumping Bungy jumping. For centuries they have been throwing themselves from a tower of 30m, constructed in a communal effort over a period of 10 days, vines tied to their ankles.

Back in the 1970's, the ancient ritual practiced on Vanuatu eventually inspired the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club to try a few experimental jumps.
When AJ Hackett saw a video of this group in action, he teemed up with a fellow speed-skier Henry van Asch, and they went on to develop Bungy into the modern adventure it is today.
